Wendt’s Day

Little Known Cheers Regular and Mayday’s Little Black Book Entry ~ Loretta Tortelli

Loretta makes two categories since, in addition to being Carla’s ex’s second wife, she came on to Sam on a pretty regular basis.

“Well, I’d like to do something with you that will make him sorry, and I don’t mean dancing. Do you have a van? I want to do it right now too. And I’m good too. Even though I don’t like it very much.” ~ Loretta to Sam at the big dance contest

Rihanna and the epidemic of teenaged alcoholism has ruined the “Cheers” tag.

So, if you are posting about the beloved sit-com from the 1980’s (and 90’s), I suggest backing this tag up with an additional tag, so that discerning fans of NBC Thursday nights of days gone by can find your posts more easily.

I like to use “NORM!!!!” Yes, that’s with four exclamation points (one for each letter of his name, it took me a while to be consistent with that one) and “Wendt’s Day” but that one only really applies to posts made on a Wednesday.

chambersandmalone has taken to using the 2012 specific “Cheersiversary” and “Cheers30” as she has been the champion for getting the Paley Center for Media to do something for Cheers’ 30th anniversary coming up in September.  You should send them an email saying you would like for that to happen too, by the bye.

And, when in doubt, over-tag.  Actor names, character names, unique locations.  If it weren’t for tagging, no one would ever find my Bonanza posts either….

Little Known Norm Haunts ~ The Homes of the Rich and Famous
“Anyway, this is my fantasy sir. It’s a little outrageous, so just stay with me. Even though I was born poor and I’ll never be a rich man, somehow it wouldn’t make any difference if one time, sir, just one time, just one darn time, I could do something symbolic: carry a rich man across the lawn in his pajamas.” ~ Norm

“I hope you’re doing this for the money because this certainly won’t square things with your father.” ~ Dr. Frasier Crane regarding being a stripper

Bonus Little Known Regulars Anniversary Edition
There are a dozen bar regulars pictured here and with the information found here, you should know who more than half of them are.  Any information on the guys all the way in the back or all the way to the left would be much appreciated!
I have been posting information about Cheers in the guise of Wendt’s Day for a year as of today.  I originally envisioned it as a way to show everyone little known Cheers’ regulars while I marathon watched a beloved series on Netflix that I started re-watching, since I don’t watch old sit-coms (or Trek series’) in syndication on late night like I used to.
I panicked early on, as not all of the extras had speaking roles early enough for me to collect enough pertinent data on them.  I really felt like I had to make sure to represent canon.  While I waited for the information I wanted to pop up, I realized that there were so many background items that caused me to fall in love with this show so early on.  That’s when it hit me that I needed to share all the swing sets, Sam’s love life, a regular’s strange obsession and even a few specialty cocktails.
All this combined with a much more important cheersiversary, Cheers’ 30th anniversary (based on original air date) coming up this fall, makes me realize that this series, which was on for eleven years, really is part of our collective, pop-culture, unconscious.  We all crave the attention Norm gets when he walks into a room, know a loser know-it-all that lives with his mom or is just looking for just the right bar stool in just the right pub…
I’m excited to bring you more Cheers trivia and interesting tidbits every Wendt’s Day for as long as I can keep it up.  If I’m not filling your Cheers quota, I’m sure you’ve long ago found Chambers and Malone…
